Why Implants

.

The closest thing to natural teeth

Implants are the closest thing to natural teeth. Research shows that the biting and chewing efficiency of teeth retained with dental implants can greatly improve quality of life. A single tooth dental implant can replace a missing tooth without altering adjacent existing healthy teeth. There is no need for unnecessary tooth destruction of the adjacent teeth to provide bridgework.
.

How it works

A dental implant is placed carefully within a jawbone in a similar position to the previous root of the tooth that is missing. After a period of three months, the implant can be successfully restored with a fully functioning and aesthetically pleasing crown. As it is a stand-alone structure, it is relatively easy to clean and maintain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why dental implants over other treatment?

Dental Implants are a good way to replace missing teeth with a fixed solution that does not involve the preparation or pressure on your adjacent natural teeth. The dental implant screw part acts like the root of a tooth and is fixed to the jaw bone. The dental Implant crown is the part that replaces what is above the gum so you can smile and chew with confidence. There are other options like a removable denture and a bridge. The denture is removable for cleaning and the bridge may require preparation of healthy teeth to stick onto.

How long will my dental implant treatment take?

Dental implant treatment can take 3-9 months depending on how many implants you are having done and whether you need additional surgery like a sinus lift or bone grafting. Normally the treatment takes between 5-6 visits.

Can I have an implant at the same time as a tooth removal?

Yes you can. We need to assess this with a 3D scan to make sure you have enough bone to remove the tooth and place an implant at the same time. If the implant is firm enough, we can place a temporary crown on top of it so you will not need a denture or a bridge whilst the area is healing.

If I have already had a tooth removed, how long after the removal can I have a dental implant done?

This depends on how quick the area heals and how much bone you already have in the area. On average the earliest you can have in implant done is 3 months. The longer you leave the bone after tooth removal, the more bone you will lose, making the implant more challenging.

If I am missing lots of teeth do I have to have implants to fill every space?

No you don't need to replace every missing tooth with an implant. Depending on how much bone you have available in the jaw, you can replace missing teeth with implants and fix a bridge on it. In some instances, you can have 2 implant screws with 4 crowns joined as a bridge attached to it. Your Lifestyle Smiles Implant Dentist will be able to discuss this more with you during your Comprehensive Implant Exam.
